There’s a list in His word

That says away we’ll be sent

Far, far to the depths

Unless we choose to repent.

As believers, we’ve chosen

This path and this door.

But what about those

Who don’t know Him deep down in their core?

We should be like Ezekiel,

A watchman at the gate…

Warning, warning

Before it’s too late.

It is our duty

With care and with thought

To tell them sin’s wrong

Whether they listen or not.

But do so with love

With compassion and care.

Show them The Christ

So they will not despair.

Say, “Crucify your flesh

With its passions and desires

Set your sights upon

His ways that are so much higher”

Do we love our neighbor enough,

That we are willing to say,

“Turn, turn from your sin

Please follow The Way.”

Unless we are willing

To speak up and warn

Their blood is on our hands

So weep for them, and mourn.

Stop! Look around you! There are people perishing every minute of every day. We need to have Yahweh’s heart. It is not His will that any should perish…but they are—people we meet and walk by every day. We need to have His eyes, His heart–We should be in anguish that there are people dying and going to Hell and we are so busy arguing unprofitably with one another, we don’t tell them. (Scriptures from 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Ezekiel 3, Galatians 5:24)

Will the Real Christ Stand Up Please!

“We’ve got a False Jesus being portrayed. As seen on TV, acting cool….you see he’s changed.
A different Jesus from the Bible so…allow me to bring the real Christ on stage.

Not that whack Jesus, the one not based on fact Jesus, too often displayed.

The Christ in Glory, not the one on your chain.
Because he’s the real Jesus Peace that only dwells in the saved.

So allow me to paint the picture of Christ in the Scripture preaching faith and repentance that your too cool Jesus….never seems to mention.

It seems like he’s down with all the things that you do.

But come on, there’s only one Jesus who is true.

So which one will you let reign over you? Who?
The Millionaire Jesus who just wants to make you rich?

Give you some ice, fame, money, to prove that you are blessed?

The Black Panther Jesus who throws up his black fist.

The ‘Kan…Ye…West’ Jesus who walks with no Holiness.

Which one will you choose? I said….Which one will you choose?

So I think it is long overdue to have a re-introduction of Christ.

So there won’t be any confusion as to which one is right,

because one leads to death, and the other IS life!

So allow me to, re-introduce the Christ.

Allow me to, re-introduce the Christ.

I said allow me to re-introduce the Christ!

He’s been distorted by the people and IT JUST AIN’T RIGHT!

Allow me to re-introduce the Christ.

Not someone you can pimp around to propel your cause.

Or a name you can proclaim just to cover your flaws.

Look if this is true then you’re serving a different Boss.

Your Christ is an idol and you’re probably lost.
Because Christ in the scripture? He gave a call to forsake all.

Not to wear a cross but to take up your cross and follow Him.

Because we’re holding a death sentence because of our sin.

And it’s His Mercy that His wrath hasn’t burned times ten.

Just like Sodom and Gomorrah but a curse within.

You see He gives us a chance to learn of Him!
So that He can be glorified in His rightful place.

So if we’re serving this imitation Jesus, dude, it’s like a blatant slap in the face, distorting His grace and disregarding His sacrifice.

For a worldly Christ, like the ‘Purpose Driven Life’ Jesus, who prophesied you’ll be used by him before you’re living like Jesus.
Or that S.A.T. Jesus who helps you with all your quizzes, gets you into college, allows you to pass math and physics.

The homosexual Jesus who doesn’t see you sinning.

The ‘Destiny’s Child’ Jesus who sees your Beyoncé and starts grinning.

Which one will you choose? I said…which one will you choose?
So I think it is long overdue to have a re-introduction of Christ.

So there won’t be any confusion as to which one is right,

because one leads to death, and the other IS life!

So allow me to.. re-introduce the Christ.
Allow me to … re-introduce the Christ.

He’s been distorted by the people and IT JUST AIN’T RIGHT!
So allow me to re-introduce the Christ.

Not someone that we can cover His mouth,

so we can continue our nose in the dirt,

so He doesn’t require us to repent of all sins, to be born again, to never blend in with this world,

and Broadway is the street that walks the Material Girl, she’s got you seduced, she feeds you a phony Jesus that doesn’t want to save you from your sins but wants to…”Kick it with you.”
Like…”Jesus is my Homeboy”..or “Jesus got me employed” or “Jesus is my Decoy”,

But will the real Jesus please stand up?

The ONE who is TRUE!

Because He’s been, knocked down, pushed down, and these idols come in, he wrecked it up, he wrecked it up to the point that if the real Jesus came back right now…

Dude, the Church would probably hang Him upside down!

Pin Him to one of these beams and crucify Him again.

Because he’s not down with your sin!

And it hurts me to see how the Church will defend their lifestyle.

Like, Wow! Don’t we want to know Christ?

The one who willingly gave His life to set us free from our sin you see.
And I must do this by ANY means necessary.

See, I must NEVER hide the LIGHT!

So tonight, I’m going to introduce Jesus Christ.

I said I’m going to introduce Jesus Christ because He’s been distorted by the people and IT JUST AIN’T RIGHT!

So I’m going to introduce Jesus Christ because one day…Dude….

He is coming back and it’s important that you recognize Him because the scripture talks about that.
Many people saying….”I’m Jesus….No, I’m Jesus…No, I’m Jesus”

But which one is fact?

And you got to get into the Bible to see about that,

that He’s coming in the clouds with Power and Glory, and every knee will bow, testify to His authority.

So this Jesus of the scripture better take priority,

not the one that’s accepted everywhere by the majority,

when He Himself said the world would hate Him!

So why all of a sudden does the world want to date Him?

Think about it.
Hopefully you haven’t given in to this ‘Come as you are, stay as you are’ Jesus.

He has this wonderful plan for my Life’ Jesus, ‘You don’t need repentance’ Jesus…or ‘All roads lead to Jesus.’

I hope you haven’t given in to this, but you serve the One who is Holy.

Because it will be something if on Judgment day the Jesus you’ve been serving was simply an angel of light,

which covered a legion of demons masquerading as Christ.

All this time serving a Jesus who’s not been pierced at his feet and the wrists,

who has no sword coming out of his mouth, No rod of Righteousness!

To go on day by day by day, and willingly MISS because we’re serving a created image that leads you to the Abyss.

So let’s get into scripture, so we’re not fooled by this Jesus

who when were sinning he’s still with us,

Won’t get into this Jesus that the world loves,

and he’s cool with your worldly music, worldly TV, you going to the club, your sex, your lies, your vanity, your phony love,

the very thing that caused Christ in the scripture to shed blood.
So let’s make sure we’re serving the right Christ,

not a wolf in sheep’s clothing that’s got you enticed.

The TRUE ONE, want to make you new ONE, The ONLY begotten SON!
So I think it’s long overdue for you to be introduced tonight. Everybody help me welcome…Jesus Christ!”

Carnally Minded or Spiritually Minded?

light behind dark tunnel of trees

I have finally found where the word says we are not subject to God’s law. Here is the entire passage of Romans 8:1-11. But pay special attention to verse 7.

Therefore, no condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus, because the Spirit’s law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. What the law could not do since it was limited by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in flesh like ours under sin’s domain, and as a sin offering, in order that the law’s requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You however, are not it the flesh, but in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then He who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through His Spirit who lives in you.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. If you are led by the Holy Spirit, He will not lead you anywhere that is contrary to God’s Word. If you are being led to something against God’s Word, check the spirit that is leading you.

From the Heart

Big Heart of Art - 1000 Visual Mashups

“Don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but as slaves of Christ, do God’s will from your heart.” –Ephesians 6:6 As I was meditating about this verse and being a slave to Yeshua, and how it is our duty (Luke 17:10) to obey His commands, (Good-for-Nothing-Slaves), the second part jumped out at me. “Do God’s will from your heart.”

It’s one thing to obey out of obligation and duty. After all, what else should we do in light of all that Yeshua has done for us. It’s another thing entirely to obey from the heart. Jeremiah 17:10 says, “I, Yahweh, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.”

I’ve seen this transformation, obeying because it’s my duty to obeying from the heart, take place in my own life. While I have always been grateful for Yeshua’s sacrifice for me…His atoning blood…my salvation…I have not always done things for Him from the heart. For the longest time, I didn’t even realize there was anything to do. But once my eyes were opened to all of Yahweh’s word, and I began to see that we should be obeying His commandments, I started walking them out. I’d like to say that it was all just perfect and my attitude and motivations were pure…but I can’t say that.

Yahweh would reveal something to me and I would begin walking it out one faltering step at a time. Let’s take Sabbath as an example. So my eyes were opened to the fourth commandment, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” I jumped right on that train and lived happily ever after….NOT!!! I questioned, “Well, how do we know Sunday’s not the seventh day?” “Why can’t it be any day I choose?” “What?!! No work on Sabbath?” “What?!! No buying and selling on Sabbath?” You see, I came from the mindset that going to church for two hours on Sunday was setting the day apart. After church you would most often find me grocery shopping and then doing lesson plans for the upcoming week.

As I questioned and researched, read the Word and prayed, I took a step, and then another, and another…My pastor and his wife had seen Sabbath and began to offer services on Saturday and Sunday. I chose Saturday. (As a side note, so did the rest of the congregation so it wasn’t long before it was just Saturday service.) I chose to stop shopping and doing my lesson plans on Saturday. At first, these were choices because I saw it in the Word and felt it was my duty to obey. Gradually my sense of duty turned to a sense of longing and joy. How refreshing it is to have a day totally set aside to rest…but not just rest, rest in Yahweh! Isaiah 58:13-14 really came alive for me, “If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on My holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking too much; then you will delight yourself in the LORD, and I will make you ride over the heights of the land, and let you enjoy the heritage of your father Jacob.”

As Yahweh circumcises my heart (Deuteronomy 30:6), and changes me from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18), my attitude about following Him and His ways is transforming from following His ways out of a sense of duty to following them from the heart. May we all bring glory to Yahweh as we serve him with the right heart attitude.

A couple of other verses about the heart to meditate on:

“The pure in heart are blessed, for they will see God.”—Matthew 5:8

“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not set his mind on what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”—Psalm 24:3-5

Good-for-Nothing Slaves

“Which one of you having a slave tending sheep or plowing will say to him when he comes in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? Instead, will he not tell him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat, get ready, and serve me while I eat and drink; later you can eat and drink’? Does he thank that slave because he did what was commanded? In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, ‘We are good-for-nothing slaves; we’ve only done our duty.’” –Luke 17:7-10

I came across this passage last week; and verse 10 really stuck out to me. “In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, ‘We are good-for-nothing slaves; we’ve only done our duty.’” That’s exactly how we should be in our walk with Yeshua. We are to do what He commands because we are His slaves…it is our duty. It’s not about working to earn salvation, righteousness, or anything else. It is our duty. When we have received the free gift of salvation through the Messiah’s shed blood, we then become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Sin no longer rules over us, because we are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14).

But wait you say…weren’t you just talking about following the commands of Yahweh and then you just totally switched trains and now it’s all about grace? Absolutely not…because if you keep reading the rest of Romans 6 you will be amazed with sudden clarity. Keep reading…

“What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey—either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness? But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were transferred to, and having been liberated from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness. I am using a human analogy because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you offered the parts of yourselves as slaves to moral impurity, and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from allegiance to righteousness. So what fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death. But now, since you have been liberated from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification—and the end is eternal life! For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:15-23).

Saved by grace through faith for good works (Ephesians 2:8-10)…to take on Yeshua’s ways, follow His commands, and walk as He walked (1 John 2:3-6).

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping Your word. I have sought You with all my heart; don’t let me wander from Your commands. –Psalm 119:9-10

Holy Days vs. Holidays

What’s the difference? Well, to be honest, I had never really thought about it. As a matter of fact, I never even knew about Yahweh’s feast days. Growing up, I noticed some odd holidays on the calendar that we didn’t celebrate…those are Jewish holidays I was told. I grew up celebrating the “traditional” holidays…Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and on the list goes. And I learned the “true” meaning of the holidays in amongst all the extra fluff…you know…Santa, the Easter bunny, coloring Easter eggs, all the important traditions that go along with celebrating. And I taught them to my children as all good parents do.

Fast forward to 2010 and I was presented with the fact that some (or even all in some cases) of the holidays and traditions that I had been celebrating came from pagan roots and were not scriptural in the least. Well, let me tell you, that rocked my world. Really…how can that be…that can’t be right…I was happy and comfortable in my traditions…my family’s traditions. But, I also knew I had to investigate for myself. What I found out turned my world upside down. I discovered that it was true! Great…so what do I do now? Well, through much prayer and study, I decided not to celebrate Christmas and Easter. (I had given up celebrating Halloween many years ago…that was a no brainer!) But, I didn’t stop there. I continued to study the bible and pray, which led me to studying about the Feast days.

The first thing that I discovered was that when Yahweh told Moses about His appointed times, they were permanent statutes throughout the generations. The next thing I discovered was that He gave those eternal statutes to the Israelites, the people, that if we claim to be believers in Yeshua, have been grafted into (Romans 11:17)…adopted into His family (Romans 8:14-16). Think about that…if you adopt a child, do you follow the child’s traditions or does he/she become part of your family and take on the teachings and traditions of your family? If we are Yahweh’s children, we are to take on His ways…His traditions. And the Feasts of Yahweh are just that…His appointed times. He did not say they were for the Jews, the Christians, etc. They were His feasts, His appointed times (Leviticus 23:1-2).

But, you cry out, “Those are part of the old covenant which is a shadow. Jesus is the substance.” And I say, “EXACTLY!!!!!” How much more depth and meaning do these appointed times have now that we have the substance of them? Yahweh’s feast days tell the story of Yahweh and His people. It begins when Yahweh called His people to Himself and continues through to the end of time that John saw in his vision and wrote about in the Revelation. They identified special times throughout the year to give glory and honor to Yahweh for specific acts done on behalf of His people. But they also have a spiritual meaning as well.

The first three feasts of Yahweh have been fulfilled through the death, burial, and resurrection of Messiah Yeshua. Let’s start with Passover as it is the first feast day of Yahweh’s calendar. Passover not only represents the Israelites rescue from Egypt, it is also the day of Yeshua’s sacrificial death. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 tells us, “Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” He is our Passover! This feast has certainly been fulfilled through Messiah Yeshua and is observed on the 14th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar. (As a side note, did you know that Christians commemorated the death and resurrection of Christ on Passover until the Council of Nicea in 325 AD, in its quest to rid Christianity of anything Jewish changed the date to coincide with the pagan carnival Easter which celebrated the goddess of fertility Ishtar?)

The next feast, The Feast of Unleavened Bread, has also been fulfilled by Yeshua at his burial in the tomb on Nisan 15. Yeshua is our bread of heaven. John 6:51, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”

Next is the Feast of Firstfruits. This was fulfilled by Yeshua at His resurrection. (One thing that I noticed when studying these appointed days, Passover, Unleavened Bread, and Firstfruits, there is actually three days between the death and resurrection of Christ, unlike Good Friday to Easter.) 1 Corinthians 5:20-23, “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at His coming, those who belong to Christ.”

Fifty days from the Feast of Firstfruits, we are to observe the Feast of Pentecost. This feast was fulfilled by the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:1-4, “When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them. Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.”

The last three feasts of Yahweh, the Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles, have yet to be fulfilled by Yeshua. They represent future events in Yahweh’s master plan. They point to His return, judgment, millennial reign, and final triumph over evil. The last feast, the Feast of Tabernacles (also known as the Feast of Booths or Feast of Ingathering), represents the fulfillment of Yahweh’s plan. The Messiah will return to “tabernacle” with His people. Zechariah sees the ultimate fulfillment of this feast, Zechariah 14:16, “Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, and to celebrate the Festival of Booths.” See also, Revelation 7:9-17, Revelation 21:1, and Revelation 22:5.

But you cry out, “Christmas and Easter don’t mean anything about paganism to me! It’s how I celebrate Christ’s birth and resurrection. God knows my heart.” First of all, the heart is deceitful above all things…(Jeremiah 17:9) Jeremiah 17:5-8 also says, “This is what the Lord says: The man who trusts in mankind, who makes human flesh his strength and turns his heart from the Lord is cursed. He will be like a juniper in the Arabah; he cannot see when good comes but dwells in the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land where no one lives. The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed.  He will be like a tree planted by water: it sends its roots out toward a stream, it doesn’t fear when heat comes, and its foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit.” Colossians 2:8 says, “Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elemental forces of the world, and not based on Christ.”

I will be the first to tell you that celebrating Yahweh’s appointed Holy Days is not a matter of salvation or acceptance by Him. However, as a child of the Most High God, Yahweh, I have been adopted by Him and as such, I am going to follow His ways and His traditions. Since Yahweh says His feasts are to be celebrated forever and He never changes, it is quite clear to me that He still desires to be worshipped the way He has outlined in His Word. “Therefore, let us keep the feast…”

“As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.” (Joshua 24:15)

Camouflaged Christians

The Waterfall Frog (Litoria nannotis) of Austr...

Have you seen them? Shhh…..Look very carefully. They are there, very well-blended into their surroundings…into the world…so well camouflaged in fact that no one can tell the difference. They are the “Camouflaged Christians”. God’s Word gives several warnings against blending in with the world and taking on their practices. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” This verse sounds like the world, but how much of this do we see in the church today, among believers…among people that profess to know and love God? Proverbs 4:14 admonishes us, “Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil. James 4:4 should wake us all up to the fact that we shouldn’t be blended into the world…”Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, ‘The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously’?” The world and God are on opposite ends of a continuum. Chances are, if the world is embracing something, it is not godly. We are called to be holy as He is holy (Leviticus 19:2, 1 Peter 1:16). We, as believers in the Most High God, are not to allow so much of the world into us and our lives that we begin to look like, sound like, feel like the world. We are the salt and light…we are supposed to be different, peculiar, set apart. We are supposed to make the world want what we have…but how can we do that if we are no different than the world…what do we have left to offer? We are known by our fruits…

So, how do we live our lives and not blend in with the world? The short answer is read the bible and do what it says; fear God, love God, and obey His Law. Some specific verses that have spoken to me about not living in the way of the world are these:

Ephesians 5:8-18, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light, Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18, says “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Knowing that this world is a temporary thing and that my citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), I keep my focus on what is before me. I strive to live this life as an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20)…I represent Him…therefore I cannot take on the values of the world…I can’t blend in. Faith that does not change you doesn’t change your destination. We need to stop immersing ourselves in what the world values and pursuing its worldly pleasures. We need to get down to business and start living our faith. Faith without works is dead (James 2:17). We need to pursue holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). We need to find the small gate and the narrow way and walk it out (Matthew 7:14). We need to stand up and be the people God has called us to be…holy, set apart, abhorring evil and clinging to what is good…we need to uncamouflage ourselves from the world.

Quilt Analogy…The Power of a Yielded Life

As I was in the process of making a quilt for my grandson, a thought struck me…an analogy between quilting and our lives. In quilting, we take whole pieces of fabric and cut them up into pieces only to sew the pieces back together again. And, in the end, we end up with something more beautiful than when we started.

So it is with Yeshua and our lives. As we yield ourselves to Him and give Him the pieces of our lives, He stitches it back together into something amazingly beautiful. He gives us beauty for our ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness so that we may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3) Praise Yahveh!

One thing that I have realized as I have been walking out my salvation is that I need to be willing to yield. I need to be willing to let Him do the work in me. There is action involved on my part…Yahveh is a gentleman, He won’t force Himself into the places that I am still clinging to. I will be the first to admit it is not always easy to yield…but as I forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead and I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14)…it becomes easier and easier to yield to Yahveh…to allow Him to transform me through His power…His righteousness…His will.

I believe God is calling each believer to come out, be separate, be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16) As we yield our lives to Him, piece by piece, He transforms us into His image. 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” That is what the world is looking for…something real…something different than what the world has to offer…something so powerful and so appealing…they can’t help but to want what we have. They don’t want to see hypocrisy. They don’t want to hear our mouths say one thing and see our actions do another. They need to see genuine faith in the One who has the power to heal broken lives, to change us from the inside out, to recreate our life pieces into something beautiful.

On Crosses, Criminals, and Christ

I recently read a little diatribe based on Galatians 6:14. It got me to pondering…and researching…and the more I thought about it, the more worked up I became. So I thought I would give my two cents about this verse, put in the proper context. Galatians 6:14 says, “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” The author of the post that I read talks about how the cross is not an idol and it is an image (emphasis mine) of the two great commandments to “love God” and “love others”. The author ends with this, “No, I don’t make an idol of the cross or Christ, but I will boast of it all the more!”

And I say, if you are boasting in anything except Yahveh, you have created an idol. You see, it’s not the cross that has the power, but The ONE who hung on the cross. The criminals that were being executed with Jesus were also hanging on crosses. The cross is powerless. The Sacrificial Lamb of God that hung on the cross is the Savior…not the cross he was hung on.

When looking at Galatians 6:11-15, we see Paul telling the Galatians that they do not need to be circumcised to be saved, but to boast in the death of Jesus for salvation, and to crucify their worldly desires and live for Him. That is a far cry from using this verse to justify idolatry.

The bible is full of commands not to worship idols or create graven images, the most obvious being in Exodus 20:3-4. Then, in Leviticus 26:1, Numbers 33:52, Deuteronomy 7:25, 1 Kings 14:9, and on and on the list goes in the “Old Testament”. But for those that don’t think the old testament is for today and that the law has been done away with, here are some new testament verses…1 Corinthians 10:14, “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” 1 John 5:21, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”

Maybe the confusion lies in the definition of idolatry or graven image. Well, let’s look at them: idolatry—the religious worship of idols; idols—an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed; graven image—a carved idol or representation of a god used as an object of worship. Is the cross an idol? It certainly sounds like it to me, especially if we are boasting in it rather than Him.

I know idolatry goes way beyond the cross in this generation. In my own life, God has been showing me the “high places” that need to be torn down. You know, things like self-reliance, love of material things, time-wasters, and on and on my own list goes. But as I grow in the likeness of Yeshua, and work out my own salvation with fear and trembling, those places, those idols are coming down one at a time. What freedom and joy there is in following my Rock, my Redeemer, my All in All.

Lead me to Christ, not to the cross.
